Employment History
4/08 – Present B.E. Meyers & Co., Inc, Redmond, Washington
www.bemeyers.com
Senior Design Engineer responsible for the design and analyses of digital, analog, laser drive circuitry and motor drive circuitry used in laser and optical products supporting our Military and Police. Unique switching power supply design, single and multiple laser drive systems, linear/LDO power supply design, and low power, battery operated system designs. Also involved in the development of a specialized communications protocol. Suggested and investigated the incorporation of multiple features for use in the development of a line of products.
7/89 – 4/08 Andrews & Associates Engineering, Inc., Lynnwood, Washington
www.aae-inc.com
Self employed as a Design Consulting Engineer. Also acted as a General Contractor coordinating the efforts of other professionals in the Mechanical Design, Components, Board Layout, Fabrication, Assembly, EMI/RFI, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering fields. Designing and developing new products from concept to finished, tested items, ready to ship. Performing worst-case analyses of existing products. Assembling and managing teams of Engineers and other design specialists as needed to meet project goals in a timely and cost effective manner.
9/88 – 6/89 Tone Commander Systems, Inc., Redmond, Washington
Senior Design Engineer incorporating present technologies into the company's telecommunications products. Included designs with programmable logic and several microprocessors. Performed worst-case power, loading, and timing analyses.
10/84 – 9/88 John Fluke Manufacturing Company, Everett, Washington
Project Manager and Senior Design Engineer for a support product. Coordinated the efforts of other disciplines, and performed the entire digital design and its testing. Test Software Engineer on another product, writing test software and test cases. Also, Software Engineer writing some of that product's commercial code. Later assigned as the product's Lead Digital Designer, through to its release. Assisted Manufacturing in establishing analog and digital test methods. Experienced with fiber optics.
10/83 – 10/84 Azurdata, Inc., Redmond, Washington (the company was sold in 10/84)
Project Engineer working on several major products. Performed worst-case design analyses of microprocessor based, battery powered equipment. Investigated product software.
2/81 – 9/83 Data I/O Corporation, Redmond, Washington
Project Engineer for digital trouble shooting products. Assigned as temporary Group Leader for the Test and Measurement Systems group. Project Engineer for a prom programmer. Also responsible for value engineering another programmer.
6/74 – 2/81 The Boeing Company, Renton, Washington
Senior Design Engineer, Quality Control Research and Development. Researched, designed and developed specialized test equipment used to ensure the integrity of various Boeing products. Much of the equipment was microprocessor based; battery powered, involved substantial firmware development, and included analog signal conditioning circuitry. Also experienced in eddy current and ultrasound.
Some Accomplishments
Hardware Tool Usage: Significant design experience with the following schematic capture tools: OrCAD CIS, Cadence's Concept, ViewLogic's ViewDraw / Dx Designer, Veribest, and MicroSim. I have made extensive use of a variety of oscilloscopes, meters, counters, and oscillators, logic analyzers, serial analyzers, the Intel, Hitachi, Huntsville, and Nohau microprocessor emulators.
Software Tool Usage: Extensive design experience with the Keil C cross-compiler and assembler for the 80X51 family of microcontrollers. Used the Borland C/C++ compiler and debugger for system level PC-based software. I use the Altera, Xilinx, and Actel tools sets, as well as Synplicity’s Synplify VHDL compiler for FPGA designs. Also perform digital and analog designs with discrete digital logic and programmable logic using the VHDL and Verilog languages. Use various digital simulation tools, timing analysis tools (Timing Designer Pro), VHDL test bench generation (BugHunter Pro / WaveFormer Pro), and the ModelSim simulation tool.
While at the John Fluke Manufacturing Company, I became proficient with the UNIX Operating System and programming in the C language. I also attended several technical and management courses.
Patent, #4,050,294, "Apparatus and Method of Measuring Surface Roughness," issued September 27, 1979.
In conjunction with the Rehabilitation Research Department of University Hospital, Seattle, Washington, I designed and built a patient monitoring system as part of my Master's thesis in Electrical Engineering.
Personal Data
Happily married. We have two wonderful young adults we love dearly and are very proud of.
Interests
My faith, family, friends, engineering design, continuously learning, and exercise. I also very much enjoy designing and developing control and communications products for people living with disabilities.
